Bounce Into Basketball Season at the Y!


It’s game time! Our Youth Basketball program is the perfect way to get your child moving, learning, and loving the sport—no matter their skill level.

Kids will sharpen their dribbling, passing, and shooting skills while building confidence, making new friends, and discovering the power of teamwork. And parents—you’ll get to cheer them on every step of the way!

At the Y, it’s not just about the scoreboard. We focus on skill-building over competition, and we use every game and practice as a chance to teach core values like respect, honesty, caring, and responsibility.

Whether it’s their first season or they’re ready to level up, basketball at the Y is where it all begins!

 

WINTER BASKETBALL

  • Our league is open to boys and girls ages 3-12. Below are how the age groups are divided:

    • 3-4 Coed
    • 5-6 Coed
    • 7-9 Girls
    • 7-9 Boys
    • 10-12 Girls
    • 10-12 Boys

     

  • Uniform and required equipment:

    • A uniform jersey and shorts will be provided by the Y
    • Families are responsible to provide additional equipment (tennis shoes)

     

  • Season Schedule and Registration Dates:

    • Registration is open from August 24th-October 26th
    • Our season runs from Mid-November through early February with holiday time off for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

  • Practices: Once per week for one hour
    • Monday-Friday at either 5:30pm or 6:30pm or 7:30pm. (**8:30pm practices possible for older age groups due to court availability)
    • Practice location is at your home branch (branch you registered for)

  • Games:

    • The 3-4 league will only have games at their home branch (branch you register for). All other ages will have games at the Hickory and Conover branches
    • All age groups play 7 regular season games
    • Games are on Saturdays with occasional weeknight games
    • Ages 7+ will participate in a single-elimination tournament at the end of the season. Expect weeknight games for the tournament.
